my new favorite song September 27, 2006

i love my morning jacket.

i love how they’re from Kentucky so they have influence of our country’s most folk-culture rich region, the South.

but then i love how they’re modern and funky too.

this song is very mystical and dreamy. and its second verse is about loving forever and all of the good stuff.

the root of the root and the bud of the bud September 24, 2006

last weekend kita and i went to our friends becky and brian’s wedding in NYC. this poem by ee cummings was one of the readings:

i carry your heart with me
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

i thought it was extraordinary.  i am always a sucker for weddings, but this really got to me. i think it captures love very well: both on the person-to-person and the inter-galactic / collective soul levels.
